Four oval icons

Region: Russia
Period: Second half 18th century
Size: 20,5 x 17 en 20 x 14,5 cm (3x)

Description

Four oval panels show the Mother of God of Kazan, the soldier saint Demetrius, ascetic Nil of Stolbensk and a monastic founder (possibly Sergei of Radonesh).
The icons are vrezkas. This means that the painting was transferred from another panel to a (then) new board. The four images were clearly made by the same painter. They probably come from a large house icon that was largely lost. These four iconographies could be saved.
