This icon can be considered a very beautiful and typical example of Palekh icon painting. The Palekh (or Palech) school takes its name from the town of Palekh in central Russia and has a reputation as one of the most artistic, technically sophisticated and distinguished iconographic schools within the Russian Orthodox tradition. Note the refined details, the bright colour palette, the abundant use of gold, the elegant figures with elongated and graceful proportions and the complex composition of the icon.
