Description

This icon depicts the main feast days of the Russian Orthodox Church. At the centre is Easter, Christ’s resurrection and victory over the realm of death (Anastasis). Christ rescues Adam from the maw of Hades, the realm of the dead. Adam is followed by a long procession of Old Testament saints, concluded by John the Forerunner, the last prophet before Christ. The outer border consists of 16 small images of main feasts. The corners depict the four evangelists, at the top the Trinity, God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
