Description

Christ’s Anastasis (resurrection) and victory over the realm of death are central to this icon. Christ, surrounded by a mandorla, tramples the gates of the realm of death and rescues Adam, the first man, from the open maw of death. Eve, the first woman, is also depicted. To the left and right of Christ are shown righteous people who, together through Christ, overcome death.
