Description

This rare iconography shows saint George raising a man from the dead through prayer. According to legend, emperor Diocletian ordered his court to torture George so that he would renounce his faith. During a torture in which George had to walk on iron sandals, the emperor’s adviser ordered George to perform a miracle. George then began praying at a nearby tomb. After a long prayer, the stone of the tomb rolled away and the dead man rose from his grave.
