Description

What is special about icons of Elijah is that they do not depict the prophet during his greatest successes, but at times when things are not going so well. In this icon, the prophet sits by the stream Krith or Kerit, fleeing from King Ahab. Ravens provide him with food. The sober colours and the prophet’s somewhat feral appearance enhance the story of the icon.
