Description
This icon has its origins in the Monastery of the Seven Lakes, near the city of Kazan. Several miracles are known around the icon, one of the most important of which happened in the 17th century. The neighbouring city of Kazan was plagued by the plague; many inhabitants died. A monk received a vision in which a man dressed in rays ordered him to collect the icon from the monastery and bring it to the city. A procession was held around the city walls leading through all the gates of the city and the plague epidemic was over.
